Rules

The competition is divided into three parts:

 

Documentary

Travel

reportShort film

 

  1. Each author may submit a maximum of 2 works of his choice. The fee for a single entry is €25.00 and an additional €10.00 for the second entry.

  2. The work presented in the competition should have a minimum of 50% under water filming (sea, inside waters, pools).

  3. The length of the film should not exceed 15 minutes excluding the title sequence.

  4. Each author may participate with more than one work.

  5. The works submitted to the organization should be in format mini DV, CD, DVD or Memory Card (standard PAL or HD) with relative identification label of the work and author and the completed enrolment form must be attached.

8. The works submitted will not be returned and the organizers reserve the right to reproduce and use them for non profit-making purposes with the sole obligation of quoting the author’s name.

9. The jury will be made up of experts and professionals from the video –cinematographic sector, and its verdict will be irrevocable.

10. The organization accepts no responsibility for loss, theft or damage to works submitted.

11. For every controversy, the Court of Salerno will be the location.

The sub photo competition will have only one category, comprising shots taken with any kind of digital camera or scans of shots on film. There are four sections:

 

Mediterranean environment (code MA)

Mediterranean macro (code MM)

Other seas environment (code AMA)

Other seas macro (code AMM)

 

Images shot in fresh water are allowed in the section "Other seas". Photos taken in “half water” are allowed as long as images of the undersea world is prevailing.

  1. The images should have the larger side not less than 300px per 2000px. The resolution required is 300 dpi. Files should be sent in jpg format in high quality. In the “environment” sections, the scenes should be taken with a wide-angle lens and should represent the marine environment. In the “macro” sections, the images should show details and particulars of the environment and its inhabitants, and be taken with macro optics and not wide-angle.

  2. Images are not admitted where, in the post-production phase, the scene was altered at the moment the shot was taken. The usual cleaning operations of suspension, correction of the curves, levels, chromatism and contrast, and cutting of the image to a measure not exceeding 30%, are permitted. Multiple exposures obtained in post-production are not allowed. Works obtained from scanning transparencies are allowed as long as they respect the regulations. Each author may submit a maximum of four photographs of his choice (ranging from one from each section to all four from one section) so long as there are no more than four in total.

  3. Works which have already been awarded prizes, i.e. classified 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in National or International competitions held before 31 December 2012 will not be accepted. Photographers of any nationality, amateur or professional may participate.

  4. Entries may be sent by post or by e,mail. By post: entries can be sent on CD in format jpeg (not TIF) in high quality. The CD must be sent in a closed envelope with the completed enrolment form and copy of the receipt in proof of payment of the enrolment fee enclosed.

Images must be accompanied by the enrolment form duly completed and a copy of the receipt in proof of payment of the enrolment fee. Each file must carry the section code, the model of camera and optics used and a nickname (for example “dolphin”) which should be indicated on the entry form where the name of the author appears. This is requested in order ensure the anonymity of the photographer in the assessment phase. The closing date for entries is 25th April 2014, by which date files must arrive at the organization. CDs containing the works in competition will not be returned. Remaining unchanged the ownership and right to royalties on the works, the winning photos will remain in the possession of the organizing club and may be used to promote the next edition of the competition, quoting the author’s name and for non profit-making purposes. The winning entries will be included in the competition organizing committee’s archives. In the case of private individuals or bodies wishing to purchase one or more of the works, it will be the task of the organizing committee to put them into direct contact with the author. The participants shall guarantee the whole material and artistic property of the works. The organizers will accept no responsibility regarding any act or contestation brought about by anyone claiming to have rights. The decision of the jury shall be irrevocable. The jury will be made up of ….persons, at least two of whom will be actively engaged in the field of underwater photography. The jury, in addition to deciding the order of the first three classified, will also choose the image considered “best of show”, or rather, the image considered the most important of the competition regardless of the subject or section in which it was entered. The jury will have the faculty to point out or mention works which it considers particularly worthy of attention for technical or biological aspects or for its originality .The authors of the winning images may be asked to forward files in format (RAW, NEF and similar), if in their possession, in order to evaluate the respect of the ban on manipulating images. The jury reserves the right to exclude from the competition photos which they believe were obtained using post-production techniques which are not allowed. The award-winning works and those mentioned will be printed by the organization in format A3-A3plus (30X45 cm.) and will be exhibited from 15th to 19th May 2014 at Palazzo Genovese, by courtesy of the City of Salerno Council, located in Piazza Sedile del Campo in the heart of the historic centre of the city of Salerno.
